Summary in one paragraph
We collect the information you give us to set up your account and find matches, plus a small amount of technical data so the app actually works. We never sell your data. We share it only with the infrastructure providers listed below, only as far as they need to do their job. You can delete your account and all the data attached to it from inside the app at any time.
1. Who this applies to
You must be 18 or older to use 9jaMeet. This policy covers everyone who downloads the app, creates an account, visits this website, or interacts with our support team.
2. What we collect
Information you give us directly
- Account credentials — your email address and a hashed password. (We never see or store your password in plain text.)
- Profile information — first and last name, age, gender, state and city, relationship intent, religion, languages, education, profession, industry, a short bio, and the photos you upload.
- Verification selfie — when you opt in to face verification, the selfie you take is uploaded so it can be compared against your profile photos. See the “Face verification” section below for what happens next.
- Preferences — who you’re looking for, age range, location filters, etc., so we can show you relevant matches.
- Messages and call duration — when you chat or call another user, the message contents and the duration of the call. Voice/video audio is not recorded by 9jaMeet.
- Reports you file — if you report another user, we keep your report and any context you provide.
Information we collect automatically
- Device data — a Firebase Cloud Messaging token so we can send you push notifications, plus basic diagnostics (OS version, app version) used to triage crashes.
- Activity data — when you logged in, who you expressed interest in, who matched with you, how many call minutes you’ve used, your premium subscription status. We use this to run the matching algorithm and bill the right amount.
Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your phone number. The app has no phone-number field.
- We do not collect your precise GPS location. Matching uses the Nigerian state you tell us, not real-time GPS.
- We do not store your full card number. Card processing is handled entirely by Paystack (see below); we only see a payment reference.
3. How we use it
- To create and run your account.
- To match you with other users based on your stated preferences.
- To verify that the person in your profile photos is real.
- To deliver chat messages, push notifications and voice calls.
- To process subscription and call-credit payments.
- To enforce our Terms of Service — investigate reports, ban abusive accounts, prevent fraud.
- To send you transactional emails (password reset, account confirmation) via our email provider.
4. Face verification
We use Face++ (Megvii) to compare your verification selfie against the photos on your profile. The selfie URL and the URLs of your profile photos are sent to Face++. Face++ returns a match-confidence score and we mark your account verified if it passes. We also use the same check to block someone from creating multiple accounts with the same face.
Face++ has its own privacy policy at faceplusplus.com. If you choose not to verify, you keep your account but you won’t get the verified badge and certain features (calling, messaging in some flows, referral earnings) will stay locked.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your data. We share specific pieces of it with the following service providers, only as needed for them to do their job:
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage (your photos), and our serverless functions. Hosted in the EU (eu-west-2). Your profile, messages and photos live here.
- Face++ (Megvii) — face matching. Receives photo URLs as described above.
- Zego — voice and video calling. Receives the signalling needed to connect two users for a call.
- Paystack — payment processing. Receives card or bank details directly from you (we never see them) and returns a reference we attach to your subscription record.
- Google Firebase — push notifications (FCM) and anonymous app analytics.
- Email provider — sends transactional emails (password reset, confirmation) on our behalf from noreply@9jameet.com.ng.
- Background-check vendor — when you pay for a background check on another profile, we share the subject’s details with a third-party vendor or process the check manually. You’ll see the vendor named in your background-check report.
- Law enforcement — if we receive a valid legal request (court order, subpoena) we will comply to the extent legally required.
6. How long we keep it
- Account data is kept for as long as your account is active.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, photos, messages, preferences, fcm token and verification status within 30 days. Some records (payments, abuse reports) are retained longer where required for accounting, fraud prevention or legal compliance.
- Aggregated, anonymised analytics (e.g. “X new signups today”) may be kept indefinitely.
7. Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Access the personal data we hold on you — request an export by emailing privacy@9jameet.com.ng.
- Correct anything that’s wrong — most fields are editable from your profile screen.
- Delete your account — Profile → Delete Account in the app, or email support@9jameet.com.ng with the subject “Delete my account”.
- Withdraw consent to optional processing (e.g. face verification, push notifications) by disabling the relevant feature in app settings.
- Complain to your local data-protection authority. In Nigeria that’s the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
8. Security
We use HTTPS everywhere, hashed passwords, row-level security on our database so users can only read their own data, and signed URLs for private files. No system is perfectly secure; if you suspect your account has been compromised, please email us immediately at support@9jameet.com.ng.
9. Children
9jaMeet is for people aged 18 and over. If we discover an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it. Our full programme against child sexual abuse and exploitation is published on the Child Safety Standards page.
10. Changes to this policy
We’ll post any changes here and update the “Effective” date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be announced in the app.
